For Ulmo bore up Elwing out of the waves, and he gave her the likeness of a great white bird, and upon her breast there shone as a star the Silmaril, as she flew over the water to seek Eärendil her beloved. On a time of night Eärendil at the helm of his ship saw her come towards him, as a white cloud exceeding swift beneath the moon, as a star over the sea moving in strange course, a pale flame on wings of storm.

(Tolkien)

I just finnished reading this exact part of the silmarillion (how ironic, right?) and I must say that I could not with for a better illustration. Well done!

The light is just awesome, as is the contrast and Earendil's expression. :)
I also love how....human you made him. Lol. I know that probably sounds weird, but many people tend to draw him like he was an elf already. :P Which he wasn't. Yet. :P

I love it :)

Well, he was half-elven, but that does not necessarily mean that he looked like an ethereal CK-model with pointy ears, does it?

I suppose someday I should read the Silmarilion. But until then I'll keep looking at good illustrations such as this;)
